"Writing is so hard."
I hear this one a lot. In fact, I say it a lot as well. It's not that difficult unless you aren't enjoying yourself. Writing is my favorite hobby and it's actually one of the most mindless things to do in my opinion. I suffer from what I call "Chronic Daydreams" in which if I am alone in my thoughts for too long, I begin to think of different scenarios. These scenarios could be simply because I am bored in what ever I am doing and want to sort of get away for a little bit. Other scenarios are based off of whatever I am into at the moment. For example, I currently am thinking a lot about Yandere Simulator and Overwatch. That is because whenever I go over to my friends' apartment I am playing one of those two games.
My tip? Write about whatever you enjoy.
Do you want to write about D.VA trying to track down an old NES game? Go ahead, you are writing so why not?
Want to write about how you imagine life will be like after your crush falls for you? Go ahead.
The point is, find a topic you enjoy writing about and keep going.
For three years, the only writing I did was Supernatural fanfiction. Sure, I look back and I go "Oh My God. What was I talking about?" I was writing and that was all that mattered, now I am an English major and will probably sit down one day to simply rewrite the whole project. I loved the original characters I made and so I will do whatever I can to take them out of that story. Look forward to that in the future.
Basically the point of this post is that if you think that writing is hard, you aren't enjoying yourself so take a breather. Not everyone can crank out a novel in one go. I usually have a ton of different ideas for stories at one time and I find it difficult to focus on one story. My method is to sit and write all of the different scenes for different stories. I have attempted to bottle up the ideas for stories, but when it comes the time to write them, I forgot what I wanted to do and lost interest.
Short summary: Write whatever you want to, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
